Q.   When can I bring my work to be juried?
A.   Fill out the New Artist Contact Information sheet and leave it with the gallery representative. A member of the jury will contact you to set up an appointment.
Q.   How much does it cost to show at Great Lakes Artworks?
A.   There is a $25.00 annual membership fee, a $25.00 refundable deposit, monthly rent starting at $25 and up (depending on your display area), and a 10% cost from your total sales each month to cover the credit card fees and other gallery expenses.
Q.   What are the benefits of being a GLA member?
A.   Here is a list of the advantages of working with GLA:
Retail outlet for display and sale of your items.
You have control of your individual space to arrange and display as you prefer.
You have a feeling of ‘belonging’ in the Gallery, because you do.
Staffed 6 days a week (schedule varies in December and Jan, Feb & Mar).
Electricity, heat, water and liability insurance included.
Gallery membership in Old Town Commercial Association, to promote Gallery.
Ad in Lansing Visitors Bureau Visitors Guide
Listing in Michigan Art Guide

Q.   When is the monthly rent due?
A.   Rent is due by the 20th of the current month for the next month. (i.e. June rent is due by May 20th)  Rent is received by check or cash and if paid by credit card, a $2.50/mo. fee with be added.
Q.   Does the gallery take a commission from my sales?
A.   No. All your profits go directly to you, other than the costs mentioned above. Artists are required to supply a Michigan Sales Tax ID Number.

Q.   Is there a signed contract?
A.   Yes. The initial obligation is for 4 months, after which you continue month to month. You MUST give written notice to the General Mgr. or a Board Member at least 30 days prior to leaving, in order to receive your refundable deposit fee.
Q.   When do we receive a check from our monthly sales?
A.   Monthly sales will be auto deposited into your bank account on the 15th of the month.  Statements and your tags will be available at the gallery by the 15th of the month also.
Q.   Do you have special tags I have to use?
A.   Yes. We provide a Word document format to use for making tags.
Q.   Is there a deadline to submit items to the monthly board meetings?
A.   Yes. Agenda items need to be sent to the General Mgr. no later than the last Thursday of the month.
Q.   What kind of time commitment is required?
A.   Artists must work alone at the gallery for two shifts a month and will be trained for two shifts prior to working alone. Artists are required to sign up by the 20th of the month to work the following month. Each artist must also work one Festival shift during the calendar year (see schedule below). Artists are also expected to assist in other ways (i.e. help with window displays or other gallery duties as needed).
Q.   What tasks are included when working at the gallery?
A.   Technical aspects include running the register, completing routine paperwork, and doing light cleaning/dusting, as needed.  Sales aspects include being as engaging as you can with customers without being intrusive. During your shift, handle the gallery in the presence of customers as if it were your own. Warmth and friendliness are one of the characteristics that make Old Town unique and generate repeat customers.
