Q.   What are the benefits of being a GLAG member?
A. Here is a list of reasons you should be a member:
     Retail outlet for display and sale of your items.
     You have control of your individual space to arrange

        and display as you desire.
     Have a feeling of ‘belonging’ in the Gallery

        because you do.
     Staffed 6 days a week

        (schedule varies in December and Jan, Feb & Mar).
     Electricity, heat, water and liability insurance included.
     Gallery membership in Old Town Commercial                              Association, to promote Gallery.
     Ad in Lansing Visitors Bureau Visitors Guide
     Website, Google Maps, Facebook and Instagram                        exposure and promotions.
     Arts Night Out participation,

Q.   How much does it cost to display and sell my art
       at Great Lakes Art and Gifts?
A.   There is an annual membership fee, a $25.00 refundable deposit, monthly rent starting at $25 (depending on your display area) and a 10% fee from your total sales each month to cover credit card fees and other gallery expenses.
Q.   Does the gallery take a commission from my sales?
A.   No. All your sales go directly to you, other than the costs mentioned above.
Q.   Is there a signed contract?
A.   Yes. The initial obligation is for 4 months, after which you continue month-to-month. You MUST give written notice to the General Mgr. or a Board Member at least 60 days prior to leaving, in order to receive your refundable deposit fee.
Q.   What kind of time commitment is required?
A.   Artists must work alone at the gallery for two 4-shifts a month and will be trained for two shifts prior to working alone. Each artist must also work two Festival shifts during the calendar year. Artists are also expected to assist in other ways (i.e. help with window displays or other gallery duties as needed).

Q.   What tasks are included when working at the gallery?
A.   Technical aspects include running the register, completing routine paperwork, and doing light cleaning/dusting, as needed.  Sales aspects include being as engaging as you can with customers without being intrusive. During your shift, handle the gallery in the presence of customers as if it were your own. Warmth and friendliness are the characteristics that make Old Town and GLAG unique and generates repeat customers.
Q.   How is Michigan Sales Tax handled?
A.   There are two options available: If you have a Michigan Sales Tax License, you may elect to file and remit on your own. You may also elect to have GLAG file and remit for you. Ask for details.
Q.   When do we receive a check from our monthly sales?
A.   Monthly sales will be auto-deposited into your bank account by the 15th of the month.  Statements and your tags will be available at the gallery by the 15th of the month also.
Q.   When is the monthly rent due?
A.   Rent is due by the 15th of the current month for the next month. (i.e. June rent is due by May 15th)  Rent is received by check or cash.
For Rent paid by credit card, a fee of $2.50 will be added.
Q.   I’m ready…what do I do next?
A.   Stop in with some samples of your work for our jury to evaluate. Fill out the New Artist Contact Information sheet and leave it with the gallery representative. Our Prospective Member Liaison will be in contact with you to discuss your needs and assist you in joining Great Lakes Art & Gifts.
